Workshop II : Understanding Investing
Also consisting of 8 hour-long sessions, this workshop is an interesting and interactive experience that challenges the participants to implement the knowledge they have garnered from the Workshop I classes. The workshop is broken into groups and each group is asked to manage a “mock investment fund”. The students are required to perform basic analysis, generate investment ideas and make critical asset allocation decisions. We provide an outline containing certain guidelines that forces them to think critically regarding the cause and effect behavior of the economy. The goal of this experience is not to earn a profit, but rather to build an understanding of the investment process and its application. The managing of the “mock investment fund” is guided by the instructor, offering advice and helping solve any issues that may arise in the investment process. The students cover numerous topics including: fundamental analysis, technical analysis, derivatives, behavioral finance, risk analysis, asset management strategies and ethics. The Workshop II experience helps the students learn to collaborate with partners and build confidence in their own individual decision-making.
